Ramsbury FC win 9-1 in Wiltshire Cup with a convincing performance against Stratton Juniors (Adults) FC at the Recreation Ground!

Team: Oscar (GK) Mikey G Chris (C) Adam Jonah Skips Stoner Zac Rob Goody Jas Subs: Dan Joe James Sean

I turned up as the second half got underway and Dan let me know that Ramsbury were 4-1 up with Zac getting two, Rob scoring one and Jas getting the other goal. Asked if they were decent goals Dan was honest and said yes, but that Jas had scored a proper worldy from at least 25 yards! Hmm not bad I thought…and especially as Zac had been living like he was in Hangover 4 for the last 24 hours where he had been drinking his own body weight until about 4am….and had no idea what week it was never mind the day and had only gotten out of bed 30 minutes before kick off and lurched out the door like some past over 40 year old Sunday league player who had drunk his weekly pay check and had yet to face the missus….but hey…. he’s 20…and can do anything….of course….and at least he played 90 minutes     hey Stoner!!!! And, of course, he still has all his teeth intact and no face tattoo and didn’t wake up with Mike Tyson’s tiger….or more likely….a local farmers prize ewe….small mercies eh!!

After my quick chat with Dan doing his lino duties, Stratton actually played some decent passing and broke through the Ramsbury defence and should have made it 4-2 but for the no10 to scuff his shot wide. Good goalkeeping by Oscar though as he made himself big and narrowed the angle to put pressure on the opposition striker, but it was a poor miss nevertheless and Ramsbury got away with one.

Ramsbury collected themselves and got organised in the sunshine and immediately went close to grabbing another goal with a great pass by skips in the middle onto Goody and then onto Jas who wasn’t far off hitting the target. Minutes later some great play by Mikey G down the right saw a great ball by Zac to Goody and onto Jas to score and get his second to make it 5-1. Ramsbury were playing good football.

Stratton were all over the place at the back and another loose second ball lost by their midfield was intercepted by the tireless Skips who got it wide to Zac and onto Goody who made sure this time and hammered the ball in to make it 6-1….we won’t mention your 1 on 1 calamitous miss Nathan?…. that earned you the match shirt of shame (harsh I thought by Seano when you ended up scoring two..but hey ho), but you can argue that with Seano….I know who my money is on…..you are a big lad…..but Seano is deadly….so….he tells me!

At 6-1 the subs came on with James on for Chris and Dan on for Mikey G and Joe on for Stoner….who did look like he was going to pass out….and was never going to make the sequel to Hangover 4 with Zac….but did look a bit like the bloke with the beard in Hangover 3…if you shaved his head and took his beard off….just saying!?

James and Dan….one who has seen his prime years go and the other who is in his prime years….yep….you guessed it….Dan was the latter one….had a couple of dodgy moments at the back when they came on….but settled and made some great tackles, clearances and interceptions….in fact that’s the best 20 minutes I have seen James play this year….ok….its the only 20 minutes I have seen James play….but they were a good twenty minutes and some proper headers!

Jonah had moved into midfield and Joe settled in at left back and both were good choices as they kept Ramsbury on the front foot and another great interception by Jonah onto Rob saw a great ball in by Rob to Jas and then Zac who slotted it in with ease to make it 7-1 and see the Stratton heads drop. A decent hat trick for hungover boy…who against a better team would have struggled I reckon.

To be fair, Stratton kept going and the couple of young lads in midfield were not bad and put the number 9 through for a 50-50 against Oscar; and to Oscar’s credit he was massively brave and made a fine save whilst taking a lump out of the number 9 in the process….it was typical of his display from what I saw in the game and why he deservedly won man of the match from Seano even though there was a hat trick scored and some great performances by other players. Well done Oscar!

I should mention the ref as he was top draw and handled the match really well and talked through all the fouls, 50-50 with oscar, let play go with advantage and made sure both teams knew who was running the show….top ref and I hope we get him for more matches.

Ramsbury were not relenting and Jas was making sure the team were on the front foot and after a couple of near misses…ok near for Jonah and Rob….as if it was the game  with the egg-shaped ball it would have been 3 points….say no more!  But Rob did get a brilliant ball by Joe down the left wing and pile-drived a cross the face of the goal that the opposition centre half could only deflect into his own net for an own goal to make it 8-1. It should have been 9-1 seconds later as Adam who was in unfamiliar territory at the edge of the box received a neat pass and clipped the ball just wide of the left post…a decent effort from a centre half!!!

It was total dominance by Ramsbury and more great work in midfield by skips and Jonah saw the front three of Jas, Zac and Goody link up and Goody get his second of the match with another unstoppable shot past the now deflated Stratton keeper to make it 9-1. It was game over.

Stratton had had enough, the ref had had enough and Ramsbury had had their fill of goals as the ref blew for full time that saw Ramsbury FC progress to the next round of the Wiltshire Cup with and emphatic 9-1 home win.

A good Cup win and another Cup match against the other Stratton side that I doubt will be this easy. Well done to the whole team and to Oscar for MoM!
