Ramsbury FC 2022 Festival of Football & Awards – Sunday 26th June 2022

Ramsbury FC held its annual Festival of Football and Awards Ceremony on Sunday 26th June at the Ramsbury Recreation Ground. It was a special occasion as Ramsbury FC celebrated 135 years of football in the community and it was great to see over 130 children and well over 150 parents, guardians and siblings from the community celebrate in stunning sunshine. The biggest challenge of the day was feeding the masses and the BBQ volunteer team led by Becs and Scarlett Symon and helped by Annabelle, Alex and Evie and a number of parent helpers did an amazing job and kept everyone fed and hydrated!

Over 26 teams from across 10 age groups, from U6 to U13s, took part in the 5 and 6 a side tournament that concluded with team awards for the 2022-2023 season and then the annual Club awards.

This year the club award recipients were:

Dave Rushen Shield – Geoff Pratt Ramsbury FC U17s

Arthur Carrington Shield – Mark Savory and the Ramsbury FC U16s

Oli Kimber Cup – Euan Mulholland of Ramsbury FC U17s.

An added bonus was that the U6 Coach Al Collis has kindly arranged for Euan, a huge Man Utd, and one other to go to Old Trafford to see Man Utd v West Ham in October. The tickets include hospitality and Euan, as you would expect, was delighted. A huge thank you to Al for his generous gift to our Oli Kimber Cup recipient and Club Player of the Year Euan Mulholland.

The Ramsbury Festival of Football was preceded by the U17s awards and a superb friendly match against a Ramsbury FC select XI. The game was an entertaining 4-2 game and was followed by a BBQ and the team awards.

Goalkeeper Tom Mundy was awarded both the Players Player and the Supporters award for an outstanding season; and Most Improved award went to Evan Duquenoy (in his first season in competitive football!!!) with the Managers Player of the season going to Noah Greenway for his superb performances and goals. A huge well done to all.

It was an end of an era for many in the U17s squad as the team has now folded and especially for 4 players who have been with Ramsbury FC throughout the whole of their youth football: Euan Mulholland, Seb Symon, Noah Greenway and Fred Knowles have played together for over 10 years and were awarded personalised shirts to commemorate their time with the Club.

A final mention must go to the Ramsbury FC Chair and U17s Coach Andy Knowles and Ramsbury FC Coach & Committee Member Geoff Pratt who both retire from coaching but who will remain on the committee of Ramsbury FC and provide invaluable volunteer support. They have and will remain club stalwarts and were thanked by all the U17s parents and given gifts for all that they have done for the team and the club.

And so the 2021-2022 season ends and we have a brief pause before starting again in August and I am glad to report that Ramsbury FC, one of the few village grass roots football clubs remaining, will have 10 x youth teams in the North Wilts Youth Football League and a men’s team in the Swindon District League; and will continue to be supported by our fantastic sponsors Arthur and Karen Carrington of Ergo FM; our superb coaches and parents and guardians and, importantly, the brilliant children that we all have the privilege to coach and manage in our teams. The future is bright – the future is Blue & White!
