Ramsbury FC played Moredon FC in atrocious weather with strong winds and lashing rain. It was just like it was meant to be and Ramsbury played good attacking football from the outset on a heavy pitch and kept a physical Moredon side pressed and on the back foot for large spells in the match.

Zac scored another trade mark worldy goal, so I am told (by Zac….not true….the huge crowd…..ok….the crowd and Sean told me it was a peach of a goal!) as I wasn’t at the game yet, and a decent assist was provided by Byron.

At 1-0 up Ramsbury were much the better team…..for short bursts…..with Ben and Chris awesome at the back and aided by Mikey G and ads in a very solid back four and supported by Skips, Byron and Noah in the middle and Zac, Rob and Shauny red boots up front. However, for equally short bursts Ramsbury played like Stevie Wonder locked in a dark room with people repeatedly shouting boo at him as Ramsbury played some sort of football tourrettes….kicking the ball unexpectedly….to no one in particular…. and then swearing…..which in turn made Sean swear in response, the ref raise his eyes and think I could be watching the masked singer at home with the Mrs and the crowd groan and the opposition think they could win this game….it was……….. at times….. incoherent, random and a bit headless chicken-like and was enough to let Moredon score a scrappy goal to make it 1-1 as the ref blew for half time. 1-1 at half time.

After some stern words from Sean and Chris who had been replaced by Ash T due to injury, and which necessitated Mikey G to pair up with Ben G as the two centre halves, the boys returned to the Somme-like conditions of the pitch and upped their game. Moredon were pressed back, again, and Ramsbury looked like they remembered that they were playing football and not some bizarre random dance fest off Tik Tok. It was great to see and from just inside the half way line Rob picked up the ball, majestically spun past two opposition midfielders, took two measured steps and launched a Beckhamesque stunning 40 yard screamer that shattered the gloves of the opposition goalie and rattled into the net to make it 2-1! It was a beautiful thing…..ok….in reality….it wasn’t…..and was a self-proclaimed hopeful punt by Rob past two bald blokes in midfield that was carried by the wind and was buffooningly palmed into his own net by the opposition keeper….. much to the delight of the crowd and the sportingly whooping Sean….sorry to ruin the great story Rob….but that was how it was! Anyway, a goal is a goal and Rob got it and made it 2-1.

A bit more tourrettes football followed after the goal as Ramsbury tried to overdo things and play FIFA football and Sean had had enough and brought on Jonah, Dan, Euan and Ryan to get fresh impetus into the game and keep the pressure. And it did work with Ramsbury playing committed football, tackling, blocking and Oscar making two world class saves….and they were that good…….as Moredon desperately pressed hard for an equalizer.

Ramsbury stood firm and Ben G and Mikey G at the back were immense with Ads and Noah and Rob down the left and Zac on the right with Jonah and Euan brilliant on the counter. It was in the end a combination of Zac and Noah who got the third goal and saw Moredon heads drop as Noah calmly slotted in the third with an assist by Zac and see the game end 3-1. A great result and a well earned 3 points!

Ben G was man of the match (I think?) and was so solid at the back, but there were other great all-round performances and notably from Ads and Mikey G and the the clutch of 17 / 18 year olds….Euan, Oscar, Byron and Noah….who are developing really well and providing the squad with much needed youth.

Finally, there are more players joining and the fact that there were 5 subs today speaks volumes for the squad, the team, the band of brothers that is Ramsbury FC…..brilliant to see….madness at times to watch….but hugely entertaining and never dull!

Well done to all and next up away to Blunsdon FC!
