Ramsbury FC put in a proper shift to earn a gritty 2-1 home win against a previously unbeaten and much changed Moredon FC side.

Coach Sean Eviil was delighted with the team performance and especially as they had to come from behind to win and gain 3 valuable points that takes Ramsbury FC to 5th in the table!

Team: Ash T (GK), Mikey G, Jonah, Chris (C), Adam, Jas B, Rob, Zac, Jas W, Nathan, Charlie. Subs: Ali, Toby, Ash B, James W, Byron.

Ramsbury set their stall out early with an aggressive press that put Moredon on the back foot right from the outset. With Jas W and Nathan up front it was like having the Terminator and RoboCop on your team as they constantly tormented the opposition centre halves and had them on the back foot.

The press by Ramsbury worked well with Zac wide left and Charlie wide right….ok….some of the time….as Charlie seemed to be playing where the action was…..and Jas B as the CDM…..who showed some quality and maturity in the middle of the pitch and who (I think) was partnered by Rob(?)…..who (I think) was playing CAM…..but I can’t be sure?  Although the formation wasn’t clear at times, as it looked like 4 2 4, it worked pretty well as Moredon were on the back foot and Ramsbury should have had  two goals early on as Jas W and Nathan went close.

Jas B….who I would say is player of some years ….still young compared to me and Sean….definitely put himself about in midfield and brought a steadiness to Ramsbury’s play; which was countered by Charlie’s energy and chaos (and awesome heading) and Jas W and Nathan’s physical intimidation as they looked like the Kray twins invited to  a playground fight! Moredon knew they didn’t take prisoners as Ramsbury continued to get in their space and faces and dominate the play.

The only thing that was saving Moredon from conceding a goal was their midfield, which was very good, and also the winger down the left hand side that was giving Mikey G a real test at right back. Chris and Adam were assured in the centre of the Ramsbury defence and Jonah gave yet another impressive display at left back as all of the Ramsbury defence gave Ash in goal plenty of cover and help when needed. It was a bright start for Ramsbury as they dominated the game and looked the stronger side with Rob going close to scoring with a 30 yard pile driver that rattled the cross bar.

Against the run of play, a poor back pass by Zac went straight to the Moredon striker who calmly slid the ball past Ash to make it 1-0. Zac held his hand up and his misdemeanour earned him the match shirt of shame! Unlucky son!

However, Ramsbury don’t flap when they go behind and they maintained the momentum with some great play by Jas B and Charlie in midfield releasing Nathan onto to Jas W who smashed the ball across the goal into the far left hand corner to make it 1-1. Zac was there to make sure it did go in, but did own up that the ball was over the line and goal was Jas Ws. 1-1 and game on!

I then left as I had other stuff to do, but I did have a chat with the young female ref who was getting a hard time from Moredon for a righty disallowed goal and a number of other decisions that were to all those that can see were spot on. It was a shame as she was a good young referee and Moredon did nothing but give her grief which was not great to see and only makes quality young refs leave the game!.

However, the second half (I am told) was all Ramsbury as they missed a host of chances (Rob being the main culprit) with Moredon continuing to whinge and whine about just about everything and even had their precious winger stomp off as he was so unhappy…what a child!

Sean deployed subs and rested players; Ramsbury kept up the press and the  highlight was a Rob worldy wonder goal from at least 80 yards that took 3 deflections and ricocheted off the upright and inside post to clinch an epic 2-1 win and nail all 3 points…..well thats how it was relayed to me and I am sure it all completely true! Who cares…a win is a win!

What is true is that Ramsbury FC has a decent squad that are competing to play each week and have belief they can win, even against the top teams! It is great to see Sean having to decide who plays instead of scratching around for players and putting himself on the team sheet that would make Jas B seem like a teenager!!! There is a great squad mentality, win or lose, and enough players to rotate through the season and have competition.

It was a shame I missed the second half, but then most of what I write is complete fiction an should be treated as such.

Great result by a great bunch of lads….like I say….all complete fiction!
