Ramsbury FC U13s caused an upset in the Cup by beating Calne FC U13s 3-1 in a superb end to end game!

With lead Coach Rich Gillard unavailable due to illness, it was up to Assistant Coach Adam Blanchard to take the reins for the day and produce a memorable performance. And he did just that with a fantastic result against a dominant and physically stronger Calne FC side who play a Division higher than Ramsbury FC U13s. It was a great cup upset played out in glorious sunshine!

From the outset Ramsbury defended stoically and were committed throughout and gave Calne limited options. Ramsbury were buoyed by 2 superb goals to go 2-0 up and put pressure on the opposition. Calne really should have scored at least 2 or goals or more, but a combination of superb Ramsbury goalkeeping and Calne being too wasteful meant they were unable to add to their solitary goal!

Adam set the team up well to play great counter attacking football and the goals were a result of gritty defending, winning the second balls and keeping the opposition on the back foot. The third goal was scored after soaking up sustained pressure from Calne and it was a great team performance to make it 3-1 and end any chance of Calne winning the game; and saw the U13s move to the next round of the Cup. Well done!

Finally, Mark Fisher refereed the game as no match official was nominated and did a great job despite some unneeded heckling and protest from the away fans – well done Mark!
