Ramsbury FC U16s kept up their unbeaten run with a rampant 8 – 0 home win over Derry Hill FC U16s in blustery conditions.

Ramsbury U16s from the outset were quicker to the ball and scored a superb opening goal within 2 minutes as Fred skinned the Derry Hill left back and crossed for Euan to calmly nod home to make it 1-0. To their credit Derry Hill didn’t panic, but a robust shove on Noah in the box led to a penalty that was taken by Byron and saved by the keeper with Liam pouncing first to slot in the rebound to make it 2-0.

Ramsbury played some great football with Henry, Hayden and Kieran solid in defence and Oli and Joe (C) outstanding as the CDMs. It allowed Byron and Liam to attack at will and get the ball out to Noah and Fred who were relentless down the wings. A superb cross by Noah saw Fred nod in to make it 3-0 and then Joe bundled in another to make it 4-0 after superb work by Liam just before half time and shortly after the opposition keeper was sin binned for dissent. A fiery end to a superb first half.

Derry Hill were much better for 20 minutes in the second half and forcing Noah in goal for Ben P into making some top draw saves. But it didn’t last as Ben P and Liam added two more goals to make it 6-0 and see Ramsbury take control. Fred cam back on and added a seventh goal of cheeky brilliance going past 3 defenders and riding two certain fouls to stay on his feet and calmly round the keeper and pass the ball into the empty net. Pure brilliance and his display earned him man of the match!

Geoff made a string of substitutions that saw Owen, Reece, Ben W, Seb and AJ all com on and AJ made a real impact on receiving a defence splitting pass to run through and smash in a thunderbolt of a shot to give the keeper no chance and make it 8-0.

There were more chances but it remained 8-0 at the final whistle and the win secured the Mid Wilts U16s Red Division title for Ramsbury at their first attempt. An amazing achievement by all and fully deserved. Byron earned moment of the match for any one of his superb passes through the Derry Hill defence – well done!

A brilliant day for the squad and great to see those not selected for the game turn up and support the team, Finally, amazing support from all parents and a great achievement by coaches Andy and Geoff!
