Ramsbury FC U16s started their 2020-201 season in the Mid Wilts Youth League with a thoroughly commanding 11-0 win against Chippenham Town FC U16s. The formation for the match was 3-2-4-1 and the team: Noah in goal; Josh, Hayden and Kieran in defence; Oli and Liam as CDMs; George and Euan as CAMs; Fred on the right and Reece on the left with Ben P up front. Fred was Captain and subs were Owen, Barney, AJ, Jez and Ben B.

The manner of the win today was hugely impressive with 7 different scorers and all 16 players getting plenty of game time and playing in a number of different positions. It was the best football the team have played so far and all coaches were suitably impressed!

The first half was all Ramsbury as they were quicker to the ball, more organised and played some quick passing football. They should have been 2-0 up in just the first 5 minutes with narrow misses by Fred and Ben P, but excellent play by Fred and George saw Euan get the first goal with a clinical near post shot. Minutes later Euan repaid the assist by helping Fred to a goal to make it 2-0 and very soon after it was 3-0 as more break up play by Oli and Liam released George to set up Fred to get his second with a well time low drive. Chippenham were on the back foot and rarely threatened Noah in goal with Josh and Kieran superbly composed in defence and Hayden showing great skill and link up play with Reece to keep the pressure on. Fred then turned provider with a stunning pass to Ben P who headed into the goal to make it 4-0 and then Fred scored his hat trick with yet more pressure from Liam and Oli who were dominant as CDMs to release George and Ben P to clip the ball to the right and see Fred score his third and make it 5-0. Fred and George went off for a rest and Jez and Barney came on and slotted neatly into the middle and on the right. The game settled a little as Chippenham tried really hard to get forward but to only hit a blue wall of defence as Ramsbury kept their shape and discipline. Liam then scored direct from his sublime corner to make it 6-0 and Chippenham were relieved when the whistle blew for half time! Superb from Ramsbury and woeful from Chippenham.

See the source image The Second half saw Ben P in goal for Noah who went out onto the left wing; Owen on for Reece and AJ on for George and Ben B on for Hayden which gave all subs valuable game time.

The team didn’t relent and within minutes Noah had gone close with a superb run down the left and powerful shot; and the resulting corner by Jez was perfect as Noah then headed in to make it 7-0. Ramsbury continued to dominate with Liam and Oli so solid in midfield and Kieran, Josh and Ben making calm and effective clearances as Chippenham tried to press for a goal. But more excellent work by the Ramsbury Midfield saw the ball get to Fred who calmly took one step to the left and slotted in to get his 4th goal and make it 8-0. Ramsbury continued to press and Barney nearly scored with a header before making sure with a superb strike after a sublime cross by Noah to make it 9-0. Not to be outdone, AJ then scored from 25 yards with a tremendous shot from distance to loft it over the Chippenham keeper and make it 10-0.

Geoff made a few changes and put a number of players out of position with Josh on the right wing and George at centre half and Reece at left back and rested both Fred and Liam. It made no difference as Ramsbury continue to click and a great run and even better pinpoint cross by Barney to Euan who arriving late at the far post thundered home his second goal to make it 11-0. It was a fitting end to the game as Euan got the first and last goals and Barney’s cross earned him moment of the match. Fred fully deserved getting player of the match for his 4 goals and an assist, but it was a superb overall team performance and all players were positive, up for it and played like a great team. Great to see.

Thanks for all your support and braving the rain and see you all for training next Saturday and another home match v Bradford Town FC U16s on Sunday @ 2pm.
